The maximum imaging format for our presses are 13 inches x 18.125 inches. Define the page size for the document if you are directly creating image copies, or set it to the original size of your document (e.g., A4 or A3) .
Check to make sure that the amount of edge trim is set to 0.125 inches.
Make sure that your objects trap with 0.004 inches when needed. Also, check all trapping in the output.
If your product calls for folding, please indicate the correct position and folding style.

If using Adobe Photoshop 5.0, please upgrade to 5.02 or higher. Disable all color management options in Photoshop. Unless color options are disabled, the output obtained with Adobe PostScript Level 2 and 3 RIPs can differ.
Convert all image data from RGB to CMYK. If you separate the RGB images in Adobe Photoshop, use medium GCR. For good results, we recommend that you select an area coverage of 95% for black, and a total area coverage of 340%.
Save PC images as TIFF; Mac images as EPS-DCS; and halftone images as EPS or TIFF.
If QuarkXPress pages are saved as EPS data and inserted in another document, also send us the original QuarkXPress pages and all required data.
When using QuarkXPress, whenever possible, set the image border background color to 100% or 0% black.
If you import graphics from FreeHand, please send us the original FreeHand document.
Generate gradients in Adobe Photoshop and use the gaussian softener to prevent a stepped appearance.
Don't store any screen information or separation curves in your Adobe Photoshop documents.
Always scan line art with the appropriate resolution for the press used (1270 dpi for us). Do not use other resolutions. This will ensure optimum quality.
For halftone images, set scanning resolution to 300 dpi (unless you want them enlarged). If enlargements are required, the scanning resolution must be appropriately adjusted.
Rotate, scale, and trim pictures before importing them into your document.
When creating PDF files, use Adobe Acrobat Distiller only. The PostScript file should be created with the original Adobe Distiller PPD. Printer PPDs may contain proprietary instructions that result in unusable PostScript files. Please make sure to always use the latest Acrobat version: for instance, you should upgrade from Acrobat 4.0 to 4.05.
When creating PDF files, be sure to make the following settings in
Distiller :
General

Disable "ASCII format".
Enable "optimize PDF".
Make sure the resolution matches that used for imaging (1270 or 2400 dpi).
Compression

Color pictures: disable recalculation; compression: ZIP, quality: 8 bit.
Grey-level pictures: disable recalculation; compression: ZIP, quality: 8 bit.
B&W pictures: disable recalculation; compression: ZIP, quality:
CCITT Group 4.
Disable "compress text and vector graphics".
Fonts

If at all possible, create the PostScript and PDF files on the same PC.
Enable "embed all fonts".
Color

For conversion: enable "do not change color".
Disable "keep transfer function".
Extended

Disable "Prolog/Epilog".
Disable "Postscript file may overwrite settings".
Disable "keep level to copy page semantics".
Enable OPI commentary only if you use the OPI workflow.

Take a minute to check the fonts used in all of your illustrations. Make sure that you indicate all fonts used.
Select fonts from the fonts menu. When working on a Macintosh computer, avoid using style options if possible.
Define black for text as 100%K only.
Use precise units to define lines. If you want to use a hairline, define it as a 0.25 pt line.
Use all color names consistently, and use CMYK in both your graphics and page layout program.
Overprint black solids on 60% cyan, 30%magenta, 30% yellow. This will enhance black solids.
